Fort Field in Dunbeacon, County Cork, is a lost ringfort erased by gravel extraction. During 1960s quarrying, workers uncovered a man-made underground passage, scattered bones and quernstones, revealing that human hands had shaped the ridge before machines took it. The fairies may have fled the vibration, but the dead and their grinding stones remained trapped in the memory of the soil.
