Mnemo knows the forbidden tunnel under the fort. She alone can enter the dead chamber where the golden cup and black book wait. The red woman lives inside the hill, young in human years but old in heart. She tests everyone who touches the fort. Most leave empty-handed. Some never return. The fort keeps what it wants and gives back only when it chooses.
