Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Drumhallagh (tullygarvey By.)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Drumhallagh held a fort on a steep hillside beside a stream, but human hands levelled the earth until the boundary vanished. The land swallowed the stone and soil marker, leaving only memory behind. Forgetting is not the same as losing; it is a chamber where the chamber stops resisting.
Marked 'Fort' on OS 1836 ed. and 'Site of' on 1876 ed. Situated on a steep drumlin hillside in average pasture adjacent to a stream. Site has been levelled. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
