Fairy forts are earthen ringforts abandoned before human memory, yet local people still call them fairy forts because the shapes suggest more than human hands. In Drumellihy the earthworks stand as a rath, a circular fort built with soil and patience. They may have housed families, stored grain or marked territory, but they have also become vessels for imagination. The fairies may be a story people told to keep the place alive when the humans disappeared.
