Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Drumchoe

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Drumchoe holds a forty-seven-metre oval of raised earth where a missing southern bank suggests the boundary dissolved into the land rather than blocking entry. The shallow ditch curves around three sides like a forgotten breath, while the absent section invites anyone bold enough to walk through the gap. People may have lived inside this temporary circle before disappearing into history, leaving behind only a slight swelling in the grass and a boundary that never fully closed.
Raised oval area (int. dims. 47m WNW-ESE; c. 38m NNW-SSE) enclosed by a low earthen bank, absent from SSE-S, and a wide, shallow fosse identifiable only from SSW-N-ESE. Original entrance not recognisable. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
