Fairy forts are human ringforts misnamed later. This one is a true earthen ringfort: a raised circular area about twenty-seven metres across, with a broad bank, narrow gaps at the northwest and northeast, an external fosse on the south-eastern side, and a causeway entrance at the southeast. It sits in pasture on the west end of a west-sloping ridge overlooking Kenmare Bay and the Caha Mountains. The fairy name may have come later, when people stopped knowing who built it and gave the shape to something smaller and more dangerous.

In pasture, on the W end of a W-sloping ridge overlooking Kenmare Bay and the Caha Mountains. A raised circular area (27.5m N-S; 27m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 6m; int. H 0.8m; ext. H 3.2m) with narrow gaps at NW and NE. An external fosse (Wth 1.6m; D 0.8m) is evident SW-SE; the fosse area is obscured by overgrowth SSE-SW. There is a causeway entrance (Wth 2.5m) at SE. The interior is level and grass-covered. Trees grow around the perimeter. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry.
