Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Dromnafinshin

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No fairies, no masters, no memory. A field cut through a hill, a hole poked in the side, and a man wondering what the hole was for.
In pasture on top of a NNE-SSW ridge, at its NNE end, with commanding views of the sea to the WSW. A possible rath (dims. c. 35-40m NE-SW) defined by a slightly raised arc N-ENE, which may be the subtle remains of a levelled bank. The curving circuit of the possible rath continues ENE-SSE as a slight scarp to a NW-SE field boundary which appears to transect the SW quadrant of the monument. There are no visible remains of the possible rath to the SW of the field boundary. A Man-made underground passage (CO105-059002-) is located NE of the boundary, towards the centre of the SW quadrant of the possible rath. There is no local tradition of a rath on this hill. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Date of upload: 22 December 2009

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
