What is recorded here

Thirty-six metres of packed earth rise above the Kerry soil, forming an unbroken circle except for a western gap wide enough for a cart. At the centre sits an oblong mound, perhaps marking a buried chamber or a forgotten hearth, while a dark opening in the southeastern bank hints at a passage connecting the inside to the outside world. The fort does not pretend to be human, yet its precise shape and hidden depth suggest it was made for someone who understood how to hide.

Internal diameter 33.4m N-S, 36.2m E-W This univallate rath is bounded to the N through E by a trackway; to the SE lies a dump, while immediately to the S lies a quarry. The rath consists of a sub-circular area enclosed by a well-defined earthen bank, 1.4m-2.4m high externally and .5m-1.9m above the interior. The interior is at a higher level than the surrounding land and access is gained by a c 4m wide gap on the W side. In the centre of the interior is an oblong mound, 4m x 1.8m internally and .6m high. On the exterior side of the rath to the SE and in the E sector of the dump is a possible entrance to a Man-made underground passage (KE015-027001-), which may be connected to the mound in the interior.
