Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Droim Snámha

Droim Snámha is a subcircular earthen ringfort on a natural rise in County Galway, measuring thirty-five by thirty-two metres with two banks and an intervening fosse. The outer bank survives from south through west to north-east, leaving an eastern gap that may have been the original entrance. A man-made underground passage cuts through the interior, suggesting the fort was more than a boundary marker. People may have lived, hidden or performed rituals inside this raised circle, using the bogland and grazing land around it as both barrier and bedroom.
