What is recorded here
Doonavanig held a forty-three metre earthen ring before carts and ploughs erased it. The land still remembers the shape even though grass and soil forgot the name.
In pasture. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure (diam. c. 43m) on 1934 OS 6-inch map, truncated by laneway to S. Levelled; no visible surface trace.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
