Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Doon

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

One of two raths hidden in Doon, it may still hold its shape under grass or soil. The fairies keep the exact spot from human fingers, but the earth remembers the circle and waits for someone patient enough to listen for its edge.
Walsh (1972, 21) includes two raths (see KE091-115----), located in Doon townland, on a list of 'Earthwork and settlement sites' in Co. Kerry. This possible rath has not been precisely located and it is possible that it is in that part of the townland on OS 6-inch map 100. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry. Volume I: South-West Kerry' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 30 May 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
