Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Derryvunlam

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No visible trace remains of the Derryvunlam ringfort, though a 1928 map still claims a thirty-five-metre circle on the western ridge. The land has already swallowed what the lines recorded, leaving only wet pasture and memory behind. Any human life inside that circle has vanished with the soil, reducing a whole existence to a faint geometric ghost.
On the W edge of a ridge in wet pastureland. Marked on the 1928 edition of the OS 6-inch map as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 35m); partially levelled by the time of the 3rd edition (1920). No visible surface trace survives. Possibly a rath. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 4 March 2019
