Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Derrydonnell More

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No fairy ever flew there. A family lived inside the stone-faced bank, dug the outer ditch, and left behind an entrance wide enough for a cart or a child running home. Centuries of ploughing and wall-building have since bitten through the ring, but the shallow circle still marks the boundary of that forgotten household.
In mixed farmland. Described by Cody (1989, 196-7, no. 47) as a poorly preserved subcircular rath (24.5m E-W; 22m N-S) defined by a stone-faced earthen bank and an external fosse; the latter survives from SW to NW. Possible entrance gap (Wth 4m) at NNW. A field wall cuts through the monument at NW and S. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 8 December 2017

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
