Fairy forts are no fairy tale. They are ancient ringforts, circular homes or defenses built by human hands. Local names record wonder, but the structure is human. Derraghan More contained one such fort on a low ridge. Farming and development have since removed much of the visible evidence. The story is not that fairies built it. The story is that people lived there, and the land later stopped keeping their shape.
On the S-facing slope of a low ridge in pasture. Depicted as a circular enclosure with the designation 'Fort' on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. A report in 1976 (SMR file) recorded that, although levelled, the outline of the perimeter could still be traced enclosing a circular area (diam. c. 35m). Further levelling has since occurred and the monument is not visible at ground level.
