Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Deerpark (clanmaurice By.)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Mortons and C. Toal described a circular enclosure in Deerpark, County Kerry, marked on 1841-42 and 1916 maps. It is now overgrown, inaccessible and distorted from its original shape. The fairies may have taken back the fort, leaving behind a broken ring nobody can enter.
This circular enclosure is marked on the 1841-42 and 1916 OS maps. Today it is overgrown and inacessible, but would appear to be very much distorted from its original shape. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 546. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 2 August 2013
