What is recorded here

Ten paces of forgotten wall still circle a hollow where holly and oak break through the soil. The fort has surrendered most of its shape to pasture and time, yet a hidden passage remains near the centre, waiting beneath the uneven ground. That much of the ring has vanished makes the surviving chamber feel less like history and more like a door left open.

In pasture, on a hillock on the NW bank of a river with restricted views due to trees. A circular area (diam. c. 20m) is enclosed by occasional traces of an eroded earthen bank (Wth c. 2m; H 0.1m). The entire rath, including the sloping flanks of the hillock, has been disturbed. The disturbed surface of the interior is uneven and on it mature holly and oak trees are growing. The flanks of the hillock are obscured by gorse. A Man-made underground passage (CO117-008002-) is located near the centre of the interior. According to local information, this is known as a 'fort'. Another rath and Man-made underground passage (CO117-009001-, CO117-009002-) are located c. 130m to the NE. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
