What is recorded here
Barryroe By. holds a shallow earth ring where forgotten hands may have shaped soil into a boundary for living or leaving. The bank still rises beside pasture, marking the edge of a choice made before written memory.
In pasture, on ENE-facing slope. Roughly circular area (36m N-S; 40m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (H 1.4m) E->WNW, levelled bank WNW->E visible as slight rise.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
