Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Cross (moyarta By.)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts are earthen rings built by human hands, yet local stories claim they belong to hidden peoples because the boundaries resist ordinary explanation. In Cross, the ring stands as a rath, marking ancient ownership and domestic life long before modern records arrived. The soil may have swallowed named residents and daily routines, but the shape remains, forcing imagination to fill the vacancy left by forgotten time.
The Archaeological Survey of Ireland (ASI) is in the process of providing information on all monuments on The Historic Environment Viewer (HEV).
