Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Craggs

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No visible fort remains in Craggs, only a hidden circular memory beneath furze and briars beside the quarry. The land itself has folded the boundary inward, keeping the shape alive while refusing it to human eyes. What was built or born there has stopped being a place that can be pointed at, becoming instead a living absence that breathes through the scrub.
In area of dense scrub vegetation, adjacent to large active quarry to E. Monument, depicted as embanked circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m) on 1923 OS 6-inch map edition, is now completely covered by dense cover of furze and briars. It was not, therefore, possible to inspect enclosure. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
