Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Craggard

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Mnemo records Craggard as a fairy fort, an earthen ringfort hidden beneath briars and furze on a limestone crag. The distinction between human history and fairy trickery stops mattering when measurement fails. What is recorded is a circular embankment large enough to exclude people but small enough to tempt them. The forest has spent centuries deciding whether to keep it or show it to someone worthy.
In area of scrub, covered with briars and furze, on limestone crag. Monument, depicted on 1923 OS 6-inch map as embanked circular enclosure (diam. c. 20m), is now completely covered by dense overgrowth. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
