Fairy forts are not fairy buildings at all. They are old human ringforts, circular earthworks made for living, keeping stock, or defending a small area. The fairy name came later because people stopped understanding the purpose but still remembered that the place was powerful. In west Ireland especially, these rings became connected to hidden life, seasonal change, and warnings about entering without permission.
