Cortown holds a D-shaped earthen ringfort on a slight slope, its grassy scarp rising two metres before stopping at the graveyard edge. The mound swallows the northern boundary, and the missing entrance suggests the earth itself forgot where the door belonged. St. Boithín’s church still stands nearby, but the fort keeps its own silence, waiting for someone to remember the shape of the path it lost.

Located towards the top of a slight NE-facing slope. This is a D-shaped grass-covered area (dims 31.2m WNW-ESE; 20.6m NNE-SSW) defined by a scarp (H 1.3m at WNW to 2.1m at ESE) SW-N-SE that is truncated at S by the N edge of Cortown graveyard (ME024-001001-). There is no visible fosse or entrance, and the scarp incorporates a mound (ME024-001006-) on the N side (max. ext. dim. 51.3m WNW-ESE). It is within the ecclesiastical enclosure (ME024-001004-) of the early church of St. Boithín and the parish church of Balrathboyne (ME024-001----).
