Half-hidden beneath rushes and grass on the E shore of Lough Allen, the fairy fort in Cornamucklagh South keeps its shape like a breath held since before maps learned the name. Its round platform, no wider than a dozen paces across, rises slightly above the field, edged by a shallow ditch and a curved bank that may have been a wall or a boundary between peoples. The southeast gap remains clear enough to walk through, as if the fort still expects visitors rather than waiting to be discovered.

Located at the crest of the E-facing slope of a drumlin on the E shore of Lough Allen. It is not marked on the OS maps but is visible as a subcircular feature on aerial photographs (GSIAP: G 279-80). This is a grass and rush-covered circular platform (diam. 31m E-W; 29m N-S) defined by an overgrown scarp (H 0.5-0.7m) with a slight external fosse marked by a band of rushes (Wth 2m) NE-S-WSW, while a curved field bank defines the perimeter elsewhere. The entrance (Wth 3.3m) is at SE. The perimeter is overlain by a field wall SE-WSW. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Leitrim' compiled by Michael J.
