Fairy fort in Corfad, County Cavan: a raised circular area about 25 metres across, still bounded on much of its edge by a substantial earthen bank. The rest has been taken by modern field boundaries, but the old shape remains clear enough to walk around and imagine. Inside, vegetation has thickened until the place becomes a green room rather than a ruin. Whatever lived there first, the land has not forgotten the circle; it has only stopped answering in stone.

Raised circular area (int. diam. c. 25m) enclosed by a substantial earthen bank from S-W-ENE. Elsewhere the perimeter has been replaced by modern field boundaries. An earlier report (OPW 1969) noted traces of an external fosse and that the exterior of the bank had been faced with drystone masonry from N-E-ENE. Original entrance may have been at SW. Internal area densely overgrown with vegetation. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995).
