What is recorded here

Cooleybrown in County Limerick, Ireland is a circular earthen fort, thirty-one and a half metres across, with a low earth-and-stone bank still standing beside the road. Cattle have worn the grass inside, and overgrowth hides much of the rim, but the shape remains clear enough to walk around. People may have lived there long before roads were drawn, using the slope for light and the bank for protection.

In pasture, on gentle SW-facing slope, immediately W of public road. Circular area (31.5m N-S; 31.5m E-W) enclosed by earth-and-stone bank (int. H 0.6m; ext. H 1m) best preserved SE->W, and generally covered by dense overgrowth. Break in bank (Wth 7.2m) at NW possibly resultant from removal of field boundary, indicated on 1923 OS 6-inch map abutting bank at this point. Section of bank (Wth 10.6m) at ENE, where site borders public road, has recently been removed. Interior is under pasture that has been poached by cattle; S half slopes down gently to S.
