Marianne Phelan, a young mother of three, stood at the edge of Cloonmore field in 1907. She touched the rough earth bank and felt a tremor beneath her feet. The ground swallowed her sandals, then her knees, then her waist. She vanished without a cry. Her children ran home screaming. They never saw Marianne again, but they kept a bowl of porridge on the field every morning for thirty years.

This monument is subject to a preservation order made under the National Monuments Acts 1930 to 2014 (PO no. 19/1956).
