No visible trace remains at Cloonbony, though local memory still shapes the hidden fort into a fairy abode. That is the danger of disappearing places: human history recedes until mythology rushes in to fill the vacancy. The field may have contained a ringfort, a boundary marker or a forgotten residence, but the loss of evidence has transformed it into legend. What is missing has become more memorable than what could have been known.
