What is recorded here

Cloghroe holds a thirty-metre earthen ring on a southwest slope, old enough to appear on mid-nineteenth-century maps before field fences cut through its memory. People called it a fairy fort, perhaps because the strange circle resisted ordinary explanation or because the land still belonged to unseen neighbours. A laneway skirts its eastern bank, carrying travellers past the place where human hands shaped the earth and story shaped the meaning.

Depicted as hachured circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m) on 1842 and 1904 OS 6-inch maps; enclosure depicted on 1937 OS 6-inch map as incorporated into field fence system NNE->S, surviving as scarp S->NNE. Circular area (32m E-W) defined by low rise S->NE; earthen stone-faced bank NE->S. Laneway skirts bank to E.
