Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Clogheenduane

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Clogheenduane held a true ringfort before ploughs and pride erased it. The 1842 survey still caught its curve, yet even that line has faded into flat pasture where only a slight rise remains. People lived there, loved there, and forgot the shape of their own hands.
In flat pasture. Shown on 1842 OS 6-inch map as arc of hachures; abutted to W by SW-NE roadway; to S by NW-SE field fence. Levelled; slight rise visible in field. No other surface trace. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
