Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Carrowshanbally

Carrowshanbally holds a circular rath thirty metres across, its earthen bank still proud on the west side while the rest has surrendered to level farmland. Local memory whispers of an underground passage beneath the rise, suggesting the fort did more than stand guard; it may have swallowed people or secrets into darkness. The distinction between human ingenuity and fairy mischief becomes fragile when an ordinary field conceals a hidden chamber.
