Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Carrownanalt is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Carrownanalt, County Roscommon, Ireland. It occupies a severe southeast-facing slope above a deep west-east stream valley that joins the Arigna River two hundred metres east. The circular grass-covered area measures twenty-three and a half by twenty-one and a half metres, with a slight northwestern bank, a southwestern scarp, and an outer fosse or rush-filled berm around the remaining perimeter. The interior drops three and a half metres toward the southeast, and the eastern edge remains less distinct where an entrance may have existed.
Situated on a severe SE-facing slope with the deep valley of a W-E stream immediately to the S. This stream joins the NW-SE Arigna River c. 200m to the E. This is a circular grass-covered area (diam. 23.5m NW-SE; 21.6m NE-SW) defined by slight traces of a bank (Wth 2.8m; int. H 0.1m; ext. H 0.1m) at NW (upslope) and a scarp (H 0.5m generally to 0.8m at SW) elsewhere. There is an outer fosse (at NW: Wth of top 7.3m; Wth of base 3.2m; ext. D 0.7m) NW-NE, which is replaced by a rush-filled berm (Wth 2.7-4.3m) elsewhere. The interior slopes down severely to the SE (H 3.2m). The perimeter is less distinct at E (L 8m) and there may have been an entrance at this point. The monument is clearly visible on the OSI series of aerial photographs (2005) and the Bing images.
