Fairy forts are not fairy forts. They are human ringforts, circular earthworks where people lived, worked and were buried. The fairy name came later, when the true use faded from memory. In Carrownagry North the rim still stands, a quiet circle in the field. What is forgotten is not empty. It is waiting to be remembered.

A fairy fort, or earthen ringfort, in Carrownagry North is a circular earthwork enclosure typical of early-medieval Ireland, likely dating to between the 5th and 10th centuries AD. Local folklore often associates such sites with the faé, with stories of hidden entrances to the Otherworld and warnings against disturbing the land.
