Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Carrigcleena More — Report the wrong picture

Carrigcleena More contains a 38-metre earthen ringfort where human hands shaped soil into a defensible circle before fairy tales renamed the forgotten makers. Two banks and a dry fosse still mark the boundary, though pasture grass has softened the edges and field fences have swallowed part of the outer wall. The break in the inner bank leads downward like an invitation, preserving the shape of entry even when the purpose has faded from memory.

In pasture, on gentle E-facing slope. Circular area (38m N-S; 38m E-W) enclosed by two earthen banks with intervening fosse. Break (Wth 2m) in inner bank (int. H 1.35m; ext. H 1.2m) to SE leading down into fosse; outer bank at this point rebuilt for short section. Intervening fosse (D 0.5m) partially overgrown and dry. Outer bank (H 1.2m) incorporated into field fence system to E and S; external stone facing noted to NE; narrower in section to S; break (Wth c. 2m) to NE with N side faced by large stone.
