Carrickittle is one of twelve earthworks scattered across three wet fields, a place where ordinary soil may have been shaped into a stage for rituals no longer spoken. The fort stands half a metre high, wide enough for a dozen people to circle without touching, yet a modern fence bit through its east side and took half its shape. What remains is a blunt arc in the grass, neither hidden nor celebrated, holding the shape of hands that stopped working mid-gesture.

Platform-type earthwork which is one of 12 monuments forming an archaeological complex located in three fields and described by O'Kelly (1944, 17) as following; 'All these monuments are situated in a low-land marsh meadow, the entire complex covering three fields. In one field are 8 of the barrows and the two platforms. In the nearest corner of the next field to the east is the tumulus, and the 9th barrow is in the nearest corner of the next field to the north. The road lies immediately to the west of all these, and the sand-pit is just west of this. The platforms have been partially destroyed in the making of a modern fence which cuts through the N.E. sides of both leaving only about half of each now visible. They are separated by a distance of 40' [12m]. The N.W. platform was circular and does not seem to have had a fosse. It is 3' [0.9m]high and its overall diam. is 72' [22m]. The S.E. platform [LI033-029014-] is rectangular and also without a fosse. It is. 3' [0.9m] high and now measures 72' [22m] by 61' [18.6m]'.
