Fairy fort in Carrickfad is a broken earthen ring on a forest knoll, overlooking a turlough that appears and disappears with rain. Its bank survives only in places, as if the earth forgot half the circle and kept the view. People may have stood there at the edge of two counties, watching water arrive or vanish, while calling it a fairy fort because the shape resisted ordinary explanation.

On a knoll in a coniferous forest and overlooking a small turlough (diam. c. 100m) c. 100m to the NW, which is in Co. Sligo. Circular platform (diam. 29m NW-SE; 27m NE-SW) defined by an earth and stone bank (Wth 3m; H 0.6m) intermittently visible E-S and a natural scarp S-N. The perimeter has been removed N-E.
