What is recorded here
No visible mound, no standing stone, no broken chamber. Only a shallow circle in the grass, a farm track through it, and a field cut into its edge. The fort has been reduced to a suggestion, yet it still occupies the land. Forgetting has not erased it; it has made it quieter.
In pasture, located on level elevated ground. Immediately to S, the ground falls away in a gently slope towards the Palmerstown River, located 150m to SE. The rath is overlooked to W by a ridge.
This rath, which is not shown on the 1838 and 1922 OS 6-inch maps, was levelled in the past. It consists of a very low, circular platform (37.8m N−S; 37m E−W) defined by remnants of a bank/scarp, outside which are traces of two fosses (Wth c. 2-2.5m) with an intervening bank (W 2.5-3m); the whole can be traced at ground level for most of its circuit SSE−NE as low undulations and cropmarks. A rectangular paddock (c. 35m NNE−SSW; c. 20m WNW−ESE) truncates the E edge of the rath, and here the arc of the enclosing elements cannot be discerned at ground level. A farm track (Wth 3.4m), on a WNW−ESE axis, cuts through the S half of the rath. Three raths (MA014-064----; MA014-065----; MA014-066----) are located 485m to W, 400m to NW and 450m to NNW, respectively, and two raths (MA015-029----; MA015-030----) are located 490m to NE and 470m to ENE. There is a court tomb (MA015-028----) c. 70m to N.
