Canbeg holds a grass-covered ringfort on a drumlin crest, its shallow bank and cut ditch still marking a small defensive perimeter beside the River Shannon. People may have lived inside that narrow circle, watching water and weather while building a home that resistance and reuse have since blurred. The fort still stands as a quiet edge between human intention and earthly forgetfulness.

Situated at the crest of the N-facing slope of a drumlin c. 240m W of a N-S section of the River Shannon. This is a grass and rush-covered subcircular area (int. dims 31m N-S; 24.5m E-W) defined by a slight grass-covered earthen bank which is best preserved (Wth 3.5m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.5m) W-N. There is an external fosse (Wth of base 2m; D 0.3m) E-S-N which is re-cut as a drain E-S, but the original entrance is not identified. A field wall is built on the perimeter N-E-S.
