Barryroe By. and Fahy: A rare double-banked rath with a hidden passage, not a fairy tale. People built two rings, cut a ditch between them, and dug under the ridge to keep out rain, raids, or curiosity. The gap at north and the worn east bank suggest entry, exit, and years of use. What the passage guarded is no longer written anywhere visible.

In pasture, on E shoulder of E-W ridge. Circular area (40m N-S; 38m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 1.5m); second bank survives W->N (H 2.9m), separated by intervening fosse. Inner bank partially levelled off, giving wide and uneven profile; gap to SE. Area of levelled outer bank N->W uneven, sloping gently down to W; gap to N (Wth 8m). Interior rises to central E-W ridge; Man-made underground passage (CO135-088002-). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
