Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Bouluskeagh OR Flowerhill

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Flowerhill is the last visible address for the vanished fort, but the field still holds its shape. Under the grass lies a circular chamber forty-five metres across, large enough for a family, a forger or a festival. The fairies may have taken it when the boundary line cut through, or they may have simply stopped needing a wall.
On a rise in otherwise level grassland. Marked on the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 45m). A NNE-SSW running field boundary clipped it at W. No visible surface trace survives. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 19 July 2019
