What is recorded here

Fairy forts are called forts because they are strong, not because they are cute. This is a real ringfort in Bective, County Meath: a circular raised area about 56 metres across, with a steep inner scarp, an outer ditch, and possibly an entrance to the east. People may have lived there, kept animals there, or marked ownership of good land. The fairies belong in the story, not the facts.

In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
