Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Bawnfune

Fairy forts are often human ringforts renamed after abandonment. In Bawnfune, a circular earthwork sits atop a hillock in pasture, its bank still standing nearly three metres high and faced with stone along part of the circuit. A narrow gap breaks the bank to the northeast, perhaps an entrance, perhaps a place where the boundary became negotiable. The ditch has mostly filled, but the shape remains: a room without walls, made visible only by elevation and exclusion. People may have lived there before forgetting what the room was for.
