Fairy fort in Banagher, County Galway: a circular earthen ringfort, twenty-three metres across, still standing in level grassland northeast of a stream. People built or shaped the bank, yet local imagination still calls it a fairy fort, as if the fairies inherited what humans abandoned. The name does not dismiss human labour; it records what the place felt like after being forgotten.
