Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballyvologe

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort in Ballyvologe, County Limerick: a circular embankment about twenty-five metres across, drawn on the 1841 Ordnance Survey map and later levelled into pasture. It vanished so completely that no trace remained when inspected, as if the earth took back what it had lent. People may have lived there, feared it, or simply stopped asking questions once the boundary disappeared.
In pasture, on S-facing slope. Monument, depicted as embanked circular enclosure (diam. c. 25m) on 1841 OS 6-inch map, has been levelled. No trace of monument evident when inspected. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
