Poll Ratha means hole of the fort, suggesting a hidden passage beneath earth now vanished. The field in Ballyrusheen still holds the shape of forgetting: a hollow infilled, a boundary erased, a name preserved only in survey words. What was built was removed so completely that even memory withdrew.

Bowman (1934, 425) records levelled fort in D. Lenehan's in field called ''Poll Ratha'' and stated that 'it may be inferred from this name that a Man-made underground passage was in the fort...both the fort and the hole have disappeared'. Field located; according to local information hollow which once existed in field infilled; no local memory of fort.
