Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballynakill More

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

The earthen ringfort in Ballynakill More is a 23-metre circle of land shaped before memory, now hidden beneath scrub and trees in marshy ground. Its bank stands forty centimetres outside and twenty-five inside, with a narrow fosse cutting around it like a forgotten boundary. People may have lived there, excluded rain or marked ownership, but the land has taken the shape back and keeps it tenderly.
In level marshy terrain. Circular area (diam. 23m) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.25m; ext. H 0.4m) with external fosse (D 0.4m; Wth 1.2m). Interior level and overgrown with scrub and trees. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
