Fairy forts are not fantasy. They are old human places, built and lived in before they became mystery. In Ballynahoulort the ringfort still stands as a round earth work, marked on the official list as a rath. People may have farmed, hidden, worshipped or simply survived there. The fairies came later in the telling, filling the gap left when the human names were forgotten.
