Fairy forts are usually ringforts people stopped calling homes. In Ballynabrennagh Upper the earth still stands in a circle, which means the name changed but the shape did not. Perhaps it was a farm, a refuge or a boundary marker before wonder took it over. The fairies may have arrived later, using the empty ring as their own.
