Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballyhorgan South

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No one knows who built the vanished Ballyhorgan fort, but the earth kept its shape long enough for a survey to record it before memory faded. That is enough to know the place existed, resisted forgetting, and withdrew again.
This small circular enclosure which is marked on the 1841-42 OS map is situated to the NE of KE016-021---- & KE016-023----. It is not marked on the later edition. No surface trace survives. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 611. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 2 August 2013

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
