Fairy fort in Ballygowan, County Galway: a subcircular earthen ringfort, 38 metres east-west and 35 metres north-south, set on the north-facing slope of a hillock in rolling pastureland. Its scarp rises 2.7 metres, a fosse 2.8 metres wide cuts before the outer bank, and the interior slopes upward toward the centre. People may have lived there, hidden there, or simply pointed at it when darkness came; the earth keeps that much without agreeing to call it fairy work.

On the N-facing slope of a hillock in rolling pastureland. Subcircular rath (38m E-W; 35m N-S), in fair condition, defined by a scarp (H 2.7m), intervening fosse (Wth 2.8m) and outer bank (Wth 5.7m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 1,8m). There is a modern causewayed entrance gap at N. The interior rises towards the centre. A Man-made underground passage (GA125-018001-) is associated.
