Fairy forts are not fairy forts. They are human ringforts, misnamed later. Ballyeagh is no different. A circular enclosure once stood there, visible enough to draw on both the 1841-42 and 1914-15 OS maps. Since then, ploughs and fieldbanks have sanded it into the earth. What remains is a ghost of a shape, not a palace for sprites. The fantasy is the interesting part: people saw an empty circle and filled it with fairy because the human history had already disappeared.

This site appears on the 1841-42 and 1914-15 OS maps as a circular enclosure. However, on the later edition it has been cut slightly by a fieldbank running N-S.
